Departure from Bucharest
Morning pick-up from central meeting points and departure towards Wallachia and the Carpathian Mountains. Your guide will introduce the history of Vlad the Impaler and the Dracula legend on the way.
Stop 1 – Targoviste Princely Court
Visit the former capital of Wallachia and Vlad’s main residence. Explore the ruins of the Princely Court and see Chindia Tower, a symbol of his reign. This is where the real story of Dracula begins.
Stop 2 – Curtea de Arges Monastery
Admire one of the most beautiful monasteries in Romania, famous for its elegant architecture and the legend behind its construction. A peaceful and photogenic stop.
Stop 3 – Poienari Fortress (Vlad’s real fortress)
The highlight of the day. Climb 1480 steps through the forest to reach Vlad the Impaler’s real mountain stronghold. From the top, enjoy wide views over the Carpathians and hear dramatic stories about Vlad’s life and battles. Guests who prefer not to climb can relax at the base area.
Stop 4 – Vidraru Dam and Transfagarasan Road
Photo stop at Vidraru Dam and Lake, an impressive engineering project on the famous Transfagarasan Road, one of the most scenic roads in Romania.
Return to Bucharest
Drive back to Bucharest in the evening after a full day of history, legends and mountain scenery.
Yes, solo travelers are welcome to join our group tours if there are already other participants booked for the same date. If no one else is booked yet, you can still reserve a spot by paying for two people. If others join the tour later, we will notify you and refund half of the amount paid.
There are no toilets on the minibus, but there are toilets at the attractions and we will make regular breaks along the way for toilets, coffee, and refreshments.
Tips for your guide and driver are not included. If you loved your tour, our guides and drivers always appreciate recognition for a well-done job!
The amount is entirely a personal preference, but 10-20 Euros/USD per day can be used as a guideline.
