What’s the Weather Like in Bucharest?
Bucharest is the capital of Romania, which is located in Southeast Europe. Romania has a temperate continental climate. This means the temperature varies significantly during the year.
We have four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
January is the coldest month of the year in Bucharest. The average minimum temperature is -2°C. It’s not the friendliest month for visiting.
Winters in Bucharest are always a surprise, though. The weather can get freezing cold during the months of December, January, February and sometimes even March. Sometimes, winters are mild, and there isn’t a lot of snow.
In April, May, and June, the weather is ideal. The mornings are cool and breezy, although May can be quite rainy sometimes. The days can get quite warm, especially during June, with a maximum temperature of 29°C.
July and August are the hottest months of the year. Not only are the days hot but the nights as well. Bucharest has some of the highest temperatures in Romania, especially during the summer.
The weather can sometimes be gloomy or rainy during autumn. However, September and October are pleasant months, temperature-wise. November is pretty chilly and colder than the previous two.
So When Should You Visit Bucharest?
Bucharest is a city of contrasts.
We recommend you visit Bucharest in April, May, June, September, or October. Simply put, spring and early autumn are the best times.
Summers can get excessively hot, and even if you’re someone who loves the heat, it can get quite overwhelming.
Winter is not an ideal time because it can get really cold and massive amounts of snow can affect the means of transportation. It also gets dark kind of early, at about 4 PM, and some of the tourist attractions are either not open or they close early.
Spring and autumn are the perfect seasons to visit Bucharest because the weather doesn’t get too hot or too cold, and there’s plenty of daylight.
So you can spend hours walking around Bucharest, discovering its unique architectural charm and beautiful parks.
