The Last Days of Communism tour will reveal the great accomplishments of that era, as well as the stories of the people who were part of it.

You’ll also get to see several of the most important attractions of Bucharest. Here are some which are included in the tour itinerary:

  • the first communist building in Bucharest
  • the Revolution Square with the balcony where the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu gave his last speech before being executed

Day Trips

This chapter will walk you through a few shared tours which last no more than 12 hours and will help you explore Bucharest’s surroundings, the mountain area and impressive castles across Romania.

1. Mogosoaia Palace, Snagov & Caldarusani Monasteries Tour

This tour focuses on one of the most appreciated locations near Bucharest and includes the following attractions:

  • Mogosoaia Palace. It is over 300 years old and it’s situated in a large, green area. The palace is built in the Brancovenesc style, a Romanian Renaissance architectural style which consists of a mixture of Venetian and Ottoman elements.
  • Snagov Monastery. The legend says the grave of Vlad the Impaler, aka Dracula, is inside this monastery. The religious building is situated on an island in the Northern part of Snagov Lake.
  • Caldarusani Monastery. It is one of the oldest and largest Orthodox Monasteries in Southern Romania. The monastery is located on the shore of a lake, being surrounded by a forest.

If you want to get away from the noise of city for a few hours and take a breath of fresh air in a scenic location near Bucharest, then this tour is for you.

2. The Real Dracula Tour

Are you curious to find out the real truth about the legend surrounding Dracula and his connection to Romania? Then embark on this 11-hour tour which will take you to the main places in the country that have a connection to Vlad the Impaler.

Here are the highlights of this trip:

  • Targoviste, the former capital of Wallachia, where we’re going to visit the former Princely Court and Chindia Tower, which is a symbol of the city.
  • Curtea de Arges, home to one of the most beautiful monasteries in Romania. When you arrive here, you’ll learn about the intriguing legend of the monastery’s builder and the unimaginable thing he needed to do in order to finish the work.
  • Poenari Citadel, from where you’ll be able to admire a remarkable scenery over the mountains – but only after you’ll climb 1480 steps for about 20-30 minutes on a trek of approximately 1 km. The view will make it all worth it.

Vlad the Impaler is still to this day an interesting and intriguing figure, not only for Romanians, but to foreigners, as well. This is definitely a tour you must book if you’re passionate about Dracula and the history which surrounds him.

3. Two Castles in One Day

You’ve read that correctly – you can actually visit two castles in one day thanks to this tour which will last approximately 12 hours. The route goes through the Carpathians Mountains, which means you’ll get to admire a picturesque scenery until you arrive at the destination.

The first stop will be in Sinaia, a famous Romanian mountain resort, where we’re going to visit the Peles Royal Castle. We’ll do the general exhibition tour which will take approximately one hour. The stunning castle was the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family. Now, it’s one of the most visited museums in Romania.

Then, the tour will continue with a one-hour drive to the second attraction: Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle. This castle dates back to the 14th century and it served for a long time as a military fortress.

Before heading back to Bucharest, the tour will also take you to Brasov, a medieval city situated right in the heart of Romania. Here, you’ll discover the Old Town, the Black Church, and the second narrowest street in Europe, which is appropriately named Rope Street.

Tours of Romania

Now, we’ll get into a couple of tours with a duration of 9 and 12 days, which are not to be missed if you want to thoroughly explore the most impressive areas of Romania.

1. Treasures of Romania Tour – 9 Days

This tour has been created for those of you who want to visit the most beautiful tourist attractions in Romania, which will make your stay unforgettable.

The first two nights will be spent in Bucharest. From there, we’ll leave to Curtea de Arges and then Sibiu, one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Romania. We’re going to spend a night here as well, so we can explore the city the next day.

After discovering Sibiu, we’ll drive to the city of Cluj-Napoca, where we’ll spend one night. Our next destination is going to be Maramures, one of the regions of Romania where villagers have kept their traditions alive.

From Maramures, we’ll drive through the Carpathians Mountains to arrive in Bucovina, which represents another treasure of Romania. In Maramures and Bucovina, we’ll discover a few UNESCO sites which are not to be missed.

There are many other attractions included in this tour’s itinerary, but we’ll leave it to you to discover the full experience.

 2. Best Countryside of Romania Tour – 12 Days

This tour will take you to the most secluded areas of the country, where time seems to have stood still.

We will start with a tour of Bucharest and the next day, we’ll head off to our first destination, Targoviste, where you’ll explore a couple of attractions.

The next day, we will leave behind the region of Wallachia and drive towards Transylvania. The road to this region is surrounded by green hillsides and tall mountains, so the road will be extremely pleasant and full of breathtaking views.

We made sure to include a few castles on the tour’s itinerary, as well as some of the most beautiful Transylvanian cities, such as Sibiu and Alba-Iulia.

As we travel further to the northern region of Romania, we will be closer and closer to the most beautiful remote areas you can find in the country.
